Memorial Day Virtual Gate Ceremony – 2020

Each year, the hundreds of veterans and military retirees who reside at Indian River Colony Club in Viera, Florida, gather under the neighborhood’s great American flag to honor their fallen comrades in arms. At IRCC, Memorial Day is personal. For those who have worn the nation’s uniform, the remembrance of America’s war dead does not diminish.

Memorial Day 2020 finds IRCC residents — and all Americans– in the midst of a deadly pandemic. And although a large in-person gathering under the flag is not possible, this prepared video is a virtual salute to those who died so that our nation might live. This virtual ceremony also honors the new warriors in defense of America: those healthcare workers and first responders who gave their lives in the battle against COVID-19.

Each year on Memorial Day, a national moment of remembrance takes place at 3:00 p.m. local time. Join with us in solemn reflection for those who gave their last measure of devotion, so that we could enjoy the blessings of freedom here in America and at The Place Patriots Call Home.

The speakers are:

  • Robert Watts, Chairman of the Board of Directors, IRCC
  • Jim Serianni, Resident, IRCC
  • Lee Wyatt, Resident, IRCC
  • Cannon firing by Paul Eitel, Resident, IRCC
  • Video creation and editing by Mark Kedzierski and Duke Bickmore, residents of IRCC and members of the community’s Audio Video Support Services
